We had a most wonderful 10-day holiday with guide Amy from Simon's SilkRoadTour company. We covered a lot of places - lakes, colourful mountains, desert, parts of silk route, grottoes and more. I heard about Simon's company from a travel blogger, and he did not disappoint. I'm all about independent travel, but this is such a culturally rich area, and a bit spread out, so having a guide and driver really just allows you to maximize your time and get the most out of every minute. He facilitated local interaction by letting us stop off whenever we saw something interesting (like locals harvesting licorice root - we even helped for a while), stopping for local street food, and helping set up an itinerary for us based on what I had found and things he suggested we add. I had my family visiting, including my 87-year old grandma, parents, and aunt and uncle, and the whole bit was seamless and adaptable to interests and abilities. Don't hesitate to contact him, prices are very reasonable!!

We were lucky to book a tour from The Silk Road China Tours. Adam was a delightful and engaging guide, full of stories, interesting history and fun facts about the city. The pace was very comfortable and he encouraged questions (as any professor would)! He was not simply reciting the facts, but doing it in an engaging manner that was filled with fascinating stories. I highly recommend The Silk Road China Tours to anyone who wants to experience an out-of-the-ordinary sightseeing trip.

We started the day excited, looking forward to seeing the Mogao caves, and we were not disappointed. Our tour guide, Maggie, so charming, so witty and extremely warm and very friendly, greatly exceeded our expectations. It was highly educational, vibrantly entertaining and a trip that we would recommend to all our friends and relatives.

The Silk Road China Tour also fed us with an absolutely amazing local food, which was delicious. A wonderful day with a wonderful finish. Well done!

We returned safely from our silk road tour and I wanted to let you know that we had a fantastic time. We were particularly impressed with our guide in Dunhuang (Jackie) and in Lanzhou (Jessica) although all of the guides and drivers were good, they were informative and dealt with all the administrative matters as well as making sure that our hotels were able to meet our needs.
