The reporter learned from Gansu Civil Aviation Airport Group that recently Dunhuang Airport was renamed Dunhuang Mogao International Airport, marking that Dunhuang Airport officially entered the ranks of international airports and became the third county-level international airport in China after Yiwu and Manzhouli.
Dunhuang Mogao International Airport is affiliated to Gansu Civil Aviation Airport Group Co., Ltd. and was opened to traffic in July 1982. The airport is located in the airway center of the two provincial capital airports, Lanzhou and Urumqi. After 38 years of development, the airport infrastructure has been continuously improved, and the operational security capabilities have been continuously improved. It has become an important domestic tourism airport, the main backup airport of Urumqi International Airport, and an emergency forced landing airport on the Eurasian International Air Route.
In January 2016, as the air transportation service guarantee unit of the first Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo, Dunhuang Airport ushered in a large-scale renovation and expansion, the runway was extended from 2800 meters to 3400 meters, and the flight zone level was upgraded from 4C to 4D. It can guarantee the takeoff and landing of B767-200 and below aircraft types, and take into account the alternate landing and landing of Class E aircraft. In November 2017, the renovation project of the International Joint Inspection Office of Terminal 2 of Dunhuang Airport was completed. In June 2019, the international air port of Dunhuang Airport was officially opened to the outside world.
At present, Dunhuang Mogao International Airport has established aviation business contacts with 14 airlines, opened routes to 26 domestic cities, and opened routes to Cambodia’s international regions.
