It Border with Jiuquan to the south and The People’s Republic of Mongolia to the north. It has an area of 114,606 square km of which dominated by Gobi desert. It has low-lying north and high south, with altitude range from 1200-1600 meter above sea level. Ejina Qi is famous for a kind of desert tree -- Populus diversifolia. It enjoys another name “the kingdom of Populus diversifolia”. Each autumn when the leaves take on gold color there is a special festival held at the capital and thousands of visitors come for photograph. The area within Gansu’s jurisdiction has undergone several changes since 1950. In 1954 Gansu annexed the province of Ningxia. In 1956 the Alashan You (Alax You) Qi and Ejina (Ejin) Qi banners in northwestern Gansu were detached and incorporated into the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
