Longwu Monastery

Longwu Temple, a cultural relics site under the national level protection, is one of the ancient temples in Qinghai Province. It was built in 1301 and already has a history that stretches back more than 700 years with several halls. The large monastery is situated at the southwestern end of Longwu town and has several dozen halls and thousands of monk cells. The grand hall has a number of spectacular statues of Shakyamuni and others including a 11 metre gilded statue of the founder, Tsongkapa (Zongkaba) on a stand 26 metres in circumference. It is the birthplace of Anduo Tibetan plays with performances being held at various times in each season. Longwu monastery was founded in 1301 and is the largest Geluk temple in the Qingnan Area covering about 100 hectares. lt was initially built in Dade year of 5 in Yuan Dynasty (1301), in 1625, the Ming Emperor gave a bian'e board inscribed the "xiyushengjing"(paradise in western China)which gave the lamasery nation-wide attention. Inside the lamasery statue of Skyamuni and other 10 statues, one ritual garment of Master Zongkaba has gold-gilded pedestal on which diamonds are inlaid. Longwu Temple, as the important cultural and religious capital of Huangnan Prefecture with four colleges of popular clan, closed clan, astronomy and medical science is the place, where religious activities are held on lecturing, praying and examination. The buildings are mainly mixture of Tibetan and Han styles. Big and small hall and monasteries are nearly five meters high. There are two gates in the east and southeast with silk threads, flying eaves and arches, just like a pavilion. The buildings of classical halls and Buddhism monasteries are grand, magnificent and elegant with rich relics and literature.
